The New Wine

I died in a bathtub in Paris, France, in 1971. At the time my name was James Douglas Morrison and I was the enigmatic lead singer of the greatest rock and roll band in history called the Doors. I vaguely remember the event in bits and pieces, the inevitable struggle between this world and the next. I remember my breathing becoming labored and heavy from the myriad of instances of opioid and alcohol use as I lay soaking in warm water of the still Paris night.

I ran away to Paris as I wrote in the song “The Soft Parade” to find myself again away from the spotlight of fame— “Can you give me sanctuary, I need a place to hide, a place for me to hide.”

I also wrote in one of my final poems, “An American Prayer,” in the end “death makes angels of us all and gives us wings where we had shoulders smooth as raven’s claws.” I can still remember very vividly the day leading up to my death. I recall walking the streets of Paris and peering into store windows. I remember the repeated violent hiccups from years of self-abuse, then shooting the heroin itself in my apartment. The hot warm rush of the drug hit my bloodstream as I climbed through the string of multicolored beads strung artfully around the bathtub. The next thing I remember was looking over my body as my girlfriend Pamela Courson tried desperately to revive me. All I could remember thinking is, The music is definitely now over

  • • Did Jesus Christ really exist?
  • • What are the true intentions behind the mysterious event of Jesus Christ
  • handing the keys of the Kingdom to Saint Peter over two thousand years ago?
  • • Who was Saint Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ?
